Prague is the most popular destination for Czechs for the first time since 2012

Prague, 15 February 2023 – According to the latest data from the Czech Statistical Office, Prague is scoring points with Czechs and becoming the most desired tourist destination for domestic travellers for the first time since 2012, with nearly 1.5 million of them visiting in 2022. Based on a survey conducted by CzechTourism, about 70% of Czechs came to the capital for a holiday, a visit or to go shopping.

Almost six million tourists came to Prague in 2022. Data predict the return of Asian travellers, and the direct connection between Prague and Seoul will help

Prague, 9 February 2023 – According to newly published data from the Czech Statistical Office, 5,976,267 travellers arrived in Prague last year. Up to one quarter of them were domestic tourists, the numbers of which increased by more than 20% compared to 2019. According to data from the Czech Statistical Office, travellers from Asian countries, absent from the metropolis in previous years, started to return to Prague in the winter period. In addition, according to a report by the Association of Hotels and Restaurants of the Czech Republic, Prague has managed to increase the average price per room over the last year, thus catching up with competing metropolises such as Budapest. This is also an indicator that Prague is profiling itself as a premium destination where tourists are willing to spend their money. Most tourists came to Prague last year from the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, the United States, Poland and Great Britain.

Prague becomes one of the first cities to enter the world of NFT, with all proceeds to be ploughed back into the restoration of cultural heritage

Prague, 28 February 2023 – With Prague having been significantly affected by mass tourism in recent decades, its official destination management organisation, Prague City Tourism, has decided to give Prague’s visitors and well-wishers the opportunity to contribute to the care of the national cultural heritage here by becoming the owner of a non-fungible token (NFT). The proceeds will support the repair of historical monuments. More than 30 million people are part of the NFT community, up from around half a million in 2020. In the United States, for example, 29% of adults are interested in joining the NFT network.

Prague is making up for the shortage of Russian tourists. Experts from Prague City Tourism estimate that up to half a million travellers will visit the metropolis around Christmas – indeed, they are the target of a special Christmas campaign

Prague, 29 November 2022 – Christmas is one of the main tourist seasons in Prague, which is why Prague City Tourism is launching a digital campaign to boost inbound tourism. The company estimates that up to half a million visitors will travel to the metropolis, corresponding to 75% of the 2019 numbers. Moreover, the available data shows that the shortfall of traditional visitors from Russia is being successfully replaced with domestic guests or travellers from the Netherlands, Germany and Poland, among others. The campaign will run in neighbouring countries and in the Netherlands, Italy and Spain and will be financed for the first time entirely by the company, which has set aside CZK 700,000 for it.

After the pandemic, Czechs form the largest group of visitors to Prague. Trailing behind them are tourists from Germany and the United States.

Prague, 9 November 2022 - After the pandemic, more and more tourists from the Czech Republic are coming to Prague. According to data from the Czech Statistical Office, 397,265 people arrived in the metropolis during the summer holiday months and September, and their number increased by a full 32% compared to the summer of 2019. Almost 1,447,067 foreign tourists arrived. The largest group consisted of tourists from Germany. In the summer period, there was a further increase in the number of tourists from the United States, which proportionally returned to pre-pandemic numbers. The Prague Visitor Pass tourist card, which has been bought by several thousand Czech and foreign guests, is also supporting new arrivals.

For the first time, the Stay in Prague marketing campaign was paid for by tourists themselves. Part of the revenue from the overnighting levy went on the marketing campaign that reached 24 million potential visitors

Prague, 11 October 2022 – The Stay in Prague online campaign to support inbound tourism has been most attentively seen by tourists in Poland, Germany and Italy. For the first time, the capital city has used the proceeds from the adjusted overnighting levy for tourism marketing activities. The campaign reached about 24 million users and almost two million visited the campaign website. The interest from these countries is also confirmed by data from the online sales of the Prague Visitor Pass, where tourists from the above-mentioned countries were most strongly represented. Prague City Tourism together with partners presented our metropolis as a prestigious and classy city, supporting upmarket, sustainable tourism.

Prague City Hall and Prague City Tourism are launching a pilot project of returnable cups at selected Prague events

Prague, 2 September 2022 - The City of Prague in cooperation with Prague City Tourism is launching a pilot project of returnable cups for events held on Prague’s Embankments and at the Exhibition Grounds. The aim is to promote the use of sustainable utensils instead of single-use consumer plastics. The city has set aside CZK 2.4 million for the project. At the end of the test phase, the system will move to fully commercial operation without Municipal support.

Half of the revenue from the overnighting fee will be reinvested into developing sustainable tourism. This was approved today by Prague City Council

Prague, 29 August 2022 – The City of Prague is the first urban authority in the country to reinvest 50% of all revenues from the overnighting fee into developing tourism. The proceeds will be used primarily for upmarket focus, marketing campaigns implemented by Prague City Tourism or MICE activities such as congresses or international conferences. This is what Prague City Council approved today. The redistribution system will come into effect from 2024 and will follow up on the previously signed memorandum between the City of Prague, the Czech Association of Hotels and Restaurants, and Prague City Tourism, raising the overnighting fee to CZK 50.

Non-European tourists are gradually making a return to Prague. However, tourists and visitors from inland and neighbouring countries still dominate

Prague, 9 August 2022 – According to the Czech Statistical Office, more and more tourists are coming to Prague. During the second quarter of this year, i.e. the period from April to June, 1,610,631 visited the metropolis. Tourists from non-European countries, especially from the USA, who are third most numerous among international travellers, have also started to come to Prague again. The positive upward trend in the number of domestic visitors is also borne out by the most current data. Domestic tourist numbers have grown by almost 40% against the same period in 2019. In the second quarter of the year attendance in the capital reached 75% of the pre-COVID period.

Prague City Tourism is launching its Summer campaigns. In addition to international travellers, these will also appeal to domestic visitors to Prague with motivational packages, and include advisory info about rules of conduct in the historical centre

Prague, 27 June 2022 – Prague City Tourism is launching marketing campaigns from 1st July to support inbound and domestic tourism, while informing visitors about rules and standards of behaviour in the metropolis. In addition to the digital international campaign, #stayinprague, which is already running and attracting cultured visitors from abroad to Prague, at the start of July PCT will be launching the #vprazejakodoma / #pragueunlocked campaign. This year it is not about being a benefits programme, but bringing together motivational packages for longer stays by Czech holidaymakers. Together with the Prague 1 city district, the company will also launch the Enjoy Respect Prague awareness campaign.
