New Visitor Information Centre opening on Petřín Hill today

15 June 2021, Prague – Petřín Tower, one of Prague’s most visited landmarks is getting a new Information Centre from today. Visitors will get all the tourist information they need and find out numerous points of interest about the lookout tower and Petřín Hill. Guided walks can also be booked here. The info booth is just inside the lookout tower.

“For quite some time now, Petřín has lacked a place for visitors to learn about good ways to spend the day at Petřín hill, to find out interesting facts about and around the lookout tower, or to ask about other tourist information of interest,” says Hana Třeštíková, Prague Councillor for Culture and Tourism. She goes on to say: “For instance, few people know that Petřín hosted the first radio station, which started broadcasting just after the First World War. We will be collating more historical curiosities content for everyone interested.”

By setting up the Information Centre at Petřín Tower, representatives of Prague City Tourism seek to boost the appeal of the entire Petřín Hill area. With that aim, they have established cooperation with other institutions such as the Štefánik Observatory and the Strahov Monastery to link various activities together and make day-trips here even more appealing to visitors.

Not only tourists, but Praguers too can now benefit from the guided walks on offer, either in groups, or as customized walks booked and tailored to individual preferences. “We are aiming to keep expanding the range of activities throughout Petřín to suit all ages. It is a place like no other, one of the country’s most visited tourist spots, and what it has to offer needs to live up to that,” adds František Cipro, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Prague City Tourism.

Prague City Tourism manages the Petřín Tower along with seven other Prague tourist buildings and four Tourist Information Centres. The Information Centre at Petřín Tower will not resemble a classic TIC, but bring a new service, to bring out the best in the entire location for everyone visiting.

“This year also marks 130 years since Petřín Tower was built. Thanks to the launch of the Information Centre, we will also inform tourists about its history and the fascinating things that have happened here in more than a century. For this significant anniversary, we are also planning other summer events for the public, in cooperation with other organizations,” says Cipro, in summary.
