Tourist tram line 42 is getting a boost. It will be running 4 days a week and passengers can now also pay for their ride with cryptocurrency.

Prague, 21 June 2022 – Passengers can now pay for a sightseeing ride in one of the oldest trams by using one of the most modern mobile terminals. The historical tram line number 42 operated by Prague City Tourism takes tourists around popular Prague sights. Now, passengers can enjoy the unique combination of using modern technologies with a tram that’s over a hundred years old. They can pay for their ticket by smartphone via the payment card acceptance app. They can even pay in crypto.

Thanks to the new Prague Visitor Pass, Prague will also be attracting tourists to other parts of the city

Prague, 1 June 2022 – the first phase of the Prague Visitor Pass starts running this June. According to representatives of Prague City Tourism and the ICT Operator involved in its development, visiting Prague will now be much easier, especially for tourists from abroad. In addition to the main tourist attractions, the card currently offers a wide range of participating places beyond the long-congested city centre. The Prague Visitor Pass also reflects the city’s new approach to tourism, seeking to revive it after the pandemic in sustainable form.

From the beginning of June one of the oldest carousels in Europe will make heads turn again on Petřín hill

Prague, 31 May 2022 – From 1st June, visitors can once again ride the 200-year-old carousel loaned to Prague by its Italian owners. Symbolically, it will be making its return on Children’s Day. On this occasion, Prague City Tourism, together with the operator, is making a special allowance of one free ride per child on the carousel, having bought a ticket to the Petřín Lookout Tower or the Mirror Maze. The carousel will be at Petřín until the end of September.

The first three months of the year have seen a progressive return of tourist visitors. More noticeable growth began around Easter.

11 May 2022, Prague – According to data from the Czech Statistical Office there were 757,682 visitor arrivals in Prague during the first quarter of the year, which corresponds to 50 percent of the equivalent 2019 period. Representatives of Prague City Tourism take the view that the city’s visitor numbers reached the anticipated level, the pandemic and the war conflict in Ukraine notwithstanding.

Petřín Mirror Maze celebrates 130 years. In the summer, it will also undergo scheduled repairs.

28 April 2022, Prague – On May 1, 130 years ago, the exhibition pavilion of the Czech Ramblers’ Association ‘Klub českých turistů’ was inaugurated on Petřín hill, later to house the now famous Mirror Maze. To mark the occasion, Prague City Tourism has prepared a special accompanying programme for visitors to Petřín. This summer, this popular monument will undergo some remedial work.

Position statement of Prague City Tourism on the situation in connection with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the current refugee crisis and the impact on tourism

Tourism in Prague has fallen by tens of percent over the past two years compared to 2019. Last year, tourism in the metropolis reached only 30 percent of 2019. For this year, Prague City Tourism, together with its partners including Prague Airport, had estimated that tourism would reach 50% of 2019. However, due to the war in Ukraine and the escalating tensions, there will be significant adverse impact on our sphere of operations this year, too.

In 2021, 2.4 million tourists visited Prague – primarily from the Czech Republic

9 February 2022 – The year 2021 was once again a disaster for tourism in the Czech capital city. According to the Czech Statistical Office (CSO), visitor numbers fell by more than 70% compared to 2019. However, the data shows a slight - 8% - improvement compared to 2020. Prague received 2.4 million visitors, 40% of whom were domestic tourists. During the last three months of the year, nearly one million visitors traveled to the capital. This was a 52% drop compared to the same period in 2019. Almost a quarter of a million tourists visited the metropolis in December and during Christmas and New Year's Eve.

The Stay in Prague promotional marketing campaign attracted tourists away from neighboring Vienna and Berlin

12 January 2022, Prague - The digital marketing campaign Stay in Prague, launched in autumn 2021 by Prague City Tourism and its partners, recorded almost 800 million impressions in selected markets. The campaign was most successful in Poland, Italy, Spain, Israel, and Germany. According to available data, Prague has become much more popular with some target markets than neighboring competitor cities such as Vienna and Berlin. The campaign started in mid-October and ended at the end of December and had an allocated budget of CZK 40 million (EUR 1.6 million).
